The Flyers signed five players yesterday, with most of them likely to play for their American Hockey League affiliate in Glens Falls.
Forwards Lukas Kaspar, Krys Kolanos, Mika Pyorala and Jason Ward and defenseman Joey Mormina signed one-year contracts.
“We feel each player solidifies our organizational depth,” general manager Paul Holmgren said in a statement from the team.
A first-round pick in 2004, Kaspar, 23, recorded four points (2G,2A) in 13 games with the San Jose Sharks in 2008-09, with the rest of his season spent in the AHL.
Kolanos, 27, posted six points (3G,3A) in 21 games with the Minnesota Wild in 2008-09.
Ward, 30, has played 336 regular season NHL games with Montreal, New York Rangers, Los Angeles Kings and Tampa Bay. He played 79 games with Tampa Bay in 2007-08, but only one game last season.
Pyorala, 28, spent the 2008-09 season with Timra of the Swedish Elite League where he posted 43 points (21G, 22A) in 55 regular season games and added three points (2G,1A) in seven postseason games.
Mormina, 27, spent the 2008-09 season with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins of the AHL, where he recorded 11 points (2G,9A) in 70 regular season games.
Lets see what will happen here, Kaspar has the biggest bang affect of right now. But who knows……anything is possible!
