It’s official, the Phillies bullpen has suffered another blow. Here’s the announcement from the Phils:
Right-hander Clay Condrey has been placed on the 15-day disabled list with a left oblique strain, the Phillies announced today. To fill his spot on the 25-man roster, left-hander Sergio Escalona was recalled from triple-A Lehigh Valley.
Condrey, 33, is 4-2 with one save and a 3.71 ERA in 33 appearances this season. He had a 2.14 ERA through his first 31 appearances before allowing six earned runs on six hits and three walks in his last two games (0.1 IP), both against Toronto. This is the first time in Condrey’s six-year major league career that he has been placed on the disabled list.
Escalona, 24, has been recalled three times this season. He is 1-0 with a 4.15 ERA in four major league appearances this year. At the minor league level, he was a combined 0-1 with 12 saves and a 3.07 ERA in 22 games between Lehigh Valley and double-A Reading. He had 26 strikeouts in 29.1 innings. -philly.com
Ya know, last year we had a good year. No crap right? World Champs. But not by our W – L record by our injury record. Last yeah we really had a “LUCKY” injury free season. Chase Utley got Injured in the begining of the year, well right around allstar break. But that did not affect the pitching at all. This year so far we have had a lot. Myers, Eyre, Lidge, and not Condrey. Thats a lot of pitchers gone from last year. Maybe we need to bring Kendrick back up and give him some more chances? Who knows what we need to do all I know is we need Madson back in the 8th inning roll, and a HEALTHY Lidge closing.
Lets hope we can do something here.
