They’re not in rookie camp anymore.
The Eagles put a bow on their minicamp involving rookies and selected veterans yesterday and the team’s first two draft picks are ready to show the full squad how much they’ve learned.
Wide receiver Jeremy Maclin, the team’s first-round pick, said any reservations he had about improving his intermediate routes were eased after six days of organized team activities held over two weeks.
“They’re coming along just great,” Maclin said. “I think that’s no longer a question anymore. . . . I think anybody that comes from college has to get used to running routes at the pro level.”
There had been some question about Maclin’s adjusting to the Eagles’ West Coast scheme after playing in Missouri’s spread offense. But the 21-year-old didn’t seem too concerned about the transition. His play during noncontact drills reflected as much.
“It’s just a different style offense,” Maclin said. “That’s it.”
Running back LeSean McCoy has a larger playbook to comprehend, but the second round selection out of Pittsburgh said he’ll be more confident with the offense when the rest of the veterans return Tuesday for the start of eight more sessions. But how would he grade his first rookie camp?
“It’s not about my playing or my ability,” McCoy said. “It’s like trying to learn what I got and trying to execute it on the field. You can never play full go when you don’t actually know what you’re doing. So it’s too hard to grade.”
Ingram back
Tight end Cornelius Ingram admitted to a few tense moments when he realized he injured the same knee that cost him his senior season at Florida.
On Wednesday, the rookie suffered a left knee contusion when he collided with safety Rashad Baker during 11 on 11 drills. Ingram was slow to rise and limped to the sideline.
“I’ll be honest, I was a little scared at that time,” he said. “But once I got up, the pain started to ease away a little bit.”
Ingram left practice early and sat out most of Thursday, but returned yesterday and, other than wearing a black sleeve over his knee, looked fine.
“I went to the doctor yesterday morning and he checked everything out,” said Ingram, who tore his anterior cruciate ligament in August. “Everything looked fine and I’m out here running around.”
McNabb sighting
Quarterback Donovan McNabb, back from his off-season Arizona residence, worked out at the NovaCare complex yesterday.
McNabb, who was unavailable for comment, apparently will practice with next week. The team’s public relations staff does not anticipate McNabb meeting with the media next week. McNabb’s desire for a new or re-worked contract prompted much debate and discussion in the off-season. -philly.com
Ingram is fine! No worries and don’t get all flustered here. He is fine and will be fine. I can’t wait for camp at Leigh to start, I will be down there as much as possible. I can’t wait for the season to start already. While I love sports in general, Football is my #1. This team looks so exciting already.
Oh and Macho Harris is doing just fine too in case you were wondering 🙂
