Simon Gagne has successful surgery & a baby boy!

Simon Gagne has had a very busy week.

Just a day after becoming a father, the Flyers’ left winger traveled to Nashville to have a bone spur and adhesions removed from his right hip. And it seems that the biggest adjustment in his life has nothing to do with recovery and rehab.

Gagne’s wife, Karine, delivered a baby boy, Matthew, on Tuesday. He was home for a day, Wednesday, and then flew down to Tennessee have his hip repaired. And last night he was on his way back home to begin the job of being a dad.

“It feels like a dream,” Gagne said. “I don’t know if I really realize it yet. I got home with my wife and the baby on Tuesday morning. So I got to spend like 1 day with them at the house.

“This is where you start to realize that you are going to have a family, and you are going to be a father when the baby comes back to the house.”

As far as his surgery, Gagne has been experiencing pain throughout the season, but he managed to keep playing. He said he was not hindered during the playoffs, but needed to have injections to relieve the pain before games.

“We were able to treat it with some pain-relief medicine before games to take the edge off the pain,” Gagne said. “But during the regular season there were some up and downs but I was still able to play. I didn’t have to stop because of the pain. The pain was there once in a while but it was something that I was OK to play with.”

After the Flyers were eliminated by Pittsburgh in the first round of the playoffs, Gagne was one of several players who traveled to Nashville to be examined by hip specialist Thomas Byrd.

Byrd saw goalie Antero Niittymaki, defenseman Randy Jones, forward Darroll Powe and Gagne. He operated on both Jones and Gagne and recommended rest and rehab for Powe and Niittymaki.

Gagne will begin rehab immediately and should be fully recovered in 4 to 6 weeks.

“On Wednesday I had to leave and come to Nashville and see the doctor and I had the surgery this morning. I am sure the next couple of days are going to be very fun to get better, start to heal the hip, with my baby, Matthew, and my wife. It is definitely one of the greatest moments in my life.

“I feel pretty good,” Gagne said. “I had surgery this morning and right now I am on my way back from Nashville to Philly. Maybe 2 or 3 hours after the surgery, I was back at the hotel having lunch. Now I am going back to Philly”. -philly.com

Well great news that everything went well with surgery nice to see it was a good success because we need you next year buddy, we need you big.  Although aside from that for a second lets pause for things that don’t happen everyday.  The birth of your child Matthew, may he be blessed and have a wonderful life.  Children are great and being a father is even better.  While there are days, ohhhh trust me there are days, there are also times that words could never describe.  May you and your wife have enough time to be able to enjoy the birth of your son and get some good rest.  She needs your help buddy, so man it up and help her.  Although I have a feeling I don’t have to tell you that Simon, I’m sure your mom is already doing that.  HA!

Again though, huge congratulations to you your wife and your new addition!  May Gob Bless him and always be there for him in his life!
