Eagles Draft Breakdown and Draft Grade.

Ok so long post incoming here. I figured we would sit down and do a breakdown of the Eagles draft and everything that I could pull up regarding these players. Overall I would have to say the Eagles draft was AMAZING. They did a great job going out and getting more offensive weapons. I think Jemery Maclin took all of us by surprise but I also think that we got a top ten player and a top ten WR in the years to come for a great price. Here’s our Draft recap as best as I could do.

Eagles 2009 Draft Recap: Round 1, pick 21: Eagles trade up with the Browns to acquire the 19th overall pick in return giving the Browns their 21st pick and a 6th (195th overall) round pick . With that 19th overall pick the Eagles Drafted:
Jeremy Maclin, WR – Missouri, 6’0″ 198lbs. Click here for Jeremy Maclin’s Stats during his College journey.  Click here for the Scouting reports on Jeremy Maclin.  This kid from everything that I have seen is going to be a PURE SUPERSTAR.  Donovan wanted weapons and with this pick he got a great weapon.  The Eagles no longer will be talked about that team that does not have that great Wide-Out.  Rather they are now already being placed as having one of the best Receiving corps out there.

Eagles then had the 28th overall draft pick.  With that they decided to trade prior to the draft to the Buffalo Bills.  In that trade the Philadelphia Eagles sent their 1st round (28th overall pick) and Eagles 4th round (121st pick overall) [no pun here but the Bills drafted the TE we wanted in Shawn Nelson with that pick, ouch].  With that trade the Eagles received:
Jason Peter’s, LT – Buffalo Bills, 6’4″ 340lbs. Peter’s is one of the best upcoming Left Tackles in the NFL.  As a walk on in the Buffalo organization he worked his way onto the offensive line.  He was a Tight End at the college level, but moving to LT was the best move he made.  He is a 2 time pro-bowler and now in Midnight Green Sky is the limit.  Signed a hefty contract for roughly 6 years and 60 million dollars.  Well worth that though considering who he will be protecting!

Eagles then have a 2nd round 53rd overall pick in which they selected
Lesean McCoy, RB – Pittsburgh, 5’10” 198lbs. Click here for Lesean McCoy’s Stats during his college journey.  Click here for the scouting reports on Lesean McCoy.  At first I really wanted Knowshawn Moreno, and I think that the Broncos taking him when they already have 10 running backs was purely silly.  But then again they were plagued last year in the RB department.  But I think they got a great RB there in Knowshawn.  After I was bitter about that I knew we were going to get Lesean McCoy and I think we all know that he (Lesean) knew that too.  Great to have this kid he will be a wonderful running back for years to come.

Ok so stay with me because this is where it gets confusing the Eagles had a 3rd rounder (85th overall pick) in which we traded away to the NY (why did we do this) Giants, so they could get a WR.  In return we got NY Giants 3rd round (91st) and 5th round (164th).  But we’re not done yet.  They then traded that 3rd round (91st overall) to the Seattle Seahawks in which the Seahawks gave Philadelphia their fifth round (137th overall) and seventh round (213th) picks in this year’s draft and a third-round pick in 2010.  (good trade)
Now the Eagles had a 4th round (121st overall) but as stated above that was packaged together for the Jason Peter’s trade, in which as said, the Buffalo Bills selected TE – Shawn Nelson (awesome pick for them)

Into the 5th Round we go which also gets confusing.  First lets start by the trade that was made.
Eagles trade for CB Ellis Hobbs … To the Patriots and the Patriots get the Eagles – 5th round (137th overall),  and 5th round (141st overall).  – I feel this was a fantastic trade, Asante and Ellis get reunited back together.  Who knows what the future holds for Sheldon Brown but we just added some security.  Maybe we can even move Sheldon over to Saftey, who knows.  Please become happy again Sheldon we love you! Back to the picks…
The Eagles also had a 5th round (164th overall pick) in which they traded to the N.O. Saints for a 7th round (222nd overall) and a 2010 5th rounder.

All in the 5th round the Eagles select:

153rd overall pick = Cornelius Ingram, TE – Florida, 6’4″ 245lbs. Click here for Cornelius Ingram’s Stats during his College journey. Click here for the scouting reports on Cornelius Ingram.  Although his numbers aren’t that impressive I personally LOVE this kid.  I think he will open up a lot of eyes and will become an  instant fan favorite here in Philly.

157th overall pick = Victor Harris, CB – Virgina Tech, 5’11” 198lbs. Click here for the scouting report on Victor Harris.  Now, everything that I have read about this kid says hes a great CB but just lacks the speed.  That sends off an alarm immeditally and says that this kid has the potential to become a very very solid Saftey if taught right.  We will see how the Eagles plan to use him.

159th overall pick = Fenuki Tupou (fen-UU-kee TUU-puu), OT – Oregon, 6’5″ 314lbs. Click here for the scouting report on Fenuki Tupou.  My thoughts – We all know Andy and his eating buddies, he has to have them!  With this pick it gives us some security.  Everything states that he will be an awesome back-up.  Lets hope that this kid will show us good things, I have no problem with adding depth to our offense line.

Now we head into the 6th Round.  In which the  Eagles picked:
195th overall pick = Brandon Gibson, WR – Washington State, 6’1″ 210lbs. Click here for stats during his college journey.  Click here for the scouting report on Brandon Gibson.  My thoughts, I don’t know much about this kid besides what I have read.  He will make a good backup is basically what I got from this kid.  If that is the case then what happens to the other Wide-Outs on our roster?  Does this mean….could it actually be, bye bye Reggie Brown?!  Guess we will have to wait and see.
Time for the knock-out punch of the 7th round.  Going into the 7th round the Eagles had 3 picks we traded the 7th round 222nd pick (which we got from N.O.)  away to the Colts for a 2010 6th round pick.   With the other 2 picks we drafted:

213th overall pick = Paul Fanaika (fun-EYE-kuh), OG – Arizona State, 6’5″ 327lbs. Click here for the scouting report on Paul Fanaika.  Again someone please tell me how adding more depth to an already BEAST of an offensive line will hurt us?  This is a BIG kid and said to be a darn good run blocker.  We will see if he makes the team though, could be a home run hit or a dud.  This is the only pick in this draft that I felt was average.

230th overall pick = Moise Fokou (Moses FOE-koo), LB – Maryland, 6’1″ 233lbs. Click here for the scouting report on Moise Fokou.  For my 2 cents everything I have read about this kid says he is going to be a stud.  It was predicted if he would of waited it out for his last year in college to enter the draft when he was a senior he could of been a 2nd if not at least a 3rd round draft pick.  If that’s the case then good job here Eagles.

Holy COW thats all FOLKS! I hope that you found this helpful in learning your new members that will be bleeding green with us for hopefully upcoming YEARS.  Since its always hard to grade a draft right away due to the fact that you have no clue how the player will preform in the NFL I will have to grade on “reports” alone.  According to everything that I have read and all the scouts reports on these players the Eagles turned in one heck of a draft.  Heck on NFL network (TV channel) they said that they felt the Eagles had the best overall draft.  I personally will give them a score of an A.  A+ being the highest.  The only thing that I would of changed and again this is only how I feel is by adding Rashad Jennings.  I feel that this kid will turn out to be an amazing player for the Jags.  All in all though, I think its tough to not say that we are not Favored in our division at the least, if not the whole NFC.  Good draft Eagles, and thanks for all the emails from our Fans here at HBN.  Hope this is what you were looking for.  I will leave you off with the Potential draft for the Philadelphia Eagles for the 2010 draft.

1st Round
2nd Round
3rd Round
3rd Round – From Seattle
4th Round
5th Round
5th Round – From New Orleans
6th Round – From Indianapolis
6th Round – Own pick sent to Buffalo in Jason Peters trade
7th Round – Own pick sent to New England in Greg Lewis trade
TBD – From New York Jets in Lito Sheppard trade hard to think this will be less then a 2nd rounder though.  All he basically has to do is show up and play sub-par and we get a 2nd rounder.

Good work – the only comment I would make is that everybody I read or heard also said they strengthened their special teams – Hobbs returns kick-offs and a couple of these guys also return punts, especially Harris who might take the pressure off of starters returning.

A NEW ASSIGNMENT FOR YOU – So what do you know about these free agents the Eagles signed on Monday (4/27)? One or more always seem to make the team: Signed defensive end Josh Gaines, safety Reshard Langford, fullback Marcus Mailei, running backs Walter Mendenhall and Marcus Thigpen, guard Dallas Reynolds, wide receiver Brandon Robinson, cornerback Courtney Robinson and kicker Sam Swank.
