The Eagles have released linebacker Will Witherspoon, general manager Howie Roseman announced.
Roseman said the move was made now “so he can catch on somewhere else.”
Witherspoon was acquired in a trade with St. Louis for rookie wide receiver Brandon Gibson and a fifth-round draft pick around the deadline and played both middle and weakside linebacker for the Birds.
He was acquired to play middle but moved to the weakside when the Birds brought back Jeremiah Trotter.
The move is not a huge surprise, given that Witherspoon is due $5 million and could end up being a backup.
That is the report…. This makes no sense to me once so ever, it was later commented that the Eagles said this “We feel that Witherspoon would of been a backup in our system with Bradley / Jordan / Gaither / and backup Foku. Really Eagles, thats the best you had to comeback and say? This guy was our 2nd best LB here…does this mean were making a big move somewhere or does this mean were drafting Sean Weatherspoon? Or does this mean that we are trading McNabb for sure…. or WTF.. does this mean dare I say that we are rebuilding? I have no clue how it would mean that at all besides the dump of 5 million but wow… Im clueless
I am glad that we gave up Brandon Gibson… who should still be on our roster… should of gave up that bust Brown
