Ok so I said I would start off by updated in 4 posts with our 4 great Philly teams so heres the Phillies latest.
Phillies sign utilityman Juan Castro to a 1 year deal. Awaiting the physical to pass which should pass no problem.Castro, 37, is a .230 hitter, with a .270 on-base percentage, in 15 major league seasons. In 57 games with the Dodgers last year, he batted .277, while playing shortstop, second base, third base and left field.
Phillies sign a catcher to backup Ruiz. Phillies sign Brian Schneider to a two-year contract. The contract is worth just under $3 million, with no option for a third year. Schneider who came from the Mets, 33, has, is a 10-year MLB veteran with the Montreal Expos/Washington Nationals and New York Mets. He has a .251 career batting average, with 59 home runs and 356 RBIs. He is also a HOME-townBOY(Z), out of the Leigh Valley he will be returning home. A very nice backup option for the Phillies to go out and get.
Jamie Moyer has surgery, nothing major here and it should not affect him getting back in action this upcoming year.
Now sometime for some Rumors…
Rumor is that the Phillies should go out and get Figgins for 3b. The rumor out there is that the Phillies should go after Figgins, who is a GREAT lead off batter and a great 3b-man as well. It is through the grape-vine and thought that Figgins if a Phillie would indeed lead off wihle Rollins would be switched to the 7 position to help bring in runs in the bottom half of the lineup. If this is the case then I think it would be said that the Phillies are now an AL team. A complete team 1-9, and can battle with the best of them hands down.
Roy Halladay announces to the Blue Jays to trade him by the spring training or to not trade him at all. And he can do that as it is in his contract he has a no trade clause. Who knows if the Phillies will make a play for him since the Phillies are one for the FEW teams on his list of teams to go to. sure would be AMAZING to add him.
