Jimmy Rollins if I were a female I would marry you! That was an amazing comeback clutch performance from you. Lets start off by saying I thought this game was going to be another BLOW OUT. Phillies go up 2-0 at the end of the 1st inning thanks to a Ryan Howard 2run shot. But then the Phillies went DRY. I mean BONE DRY. It wasn’t until the bottom of the 6th inning that the Phillies finally put another run on the board. But at that point the Dodgers added one prior to that inning to make it a 4-3 game. And to be honest with you I thought thats how it was going to end. Until the 9th inning, bottom of the ninth that is.
Let me step aside for one second and just say that Brad Lidge came in the top of the 9th and got the final 2 outs and looked REALLY GOOD in doing so. Ladies and Gentlephills we may have our closer back at this moment. And this moment is all that matters.
Back to the topic at hand. Bottom of the 9th inning, Dodgers have Broxton on the mound. If you have watched any baseball at all this year you know how dominating Broxton has been in a closing situation. First batter up was Ibanez who got out, then it was Pedro Feliz, but Charlie says no no, lets put Mr Matt Stairs up to the plate. I mean a fastball homerun hitting facing a pitcher that throws 100+ mph is a DREAM for Matt. A great at bat draws a walk with 0 outs. Now this is where it gets really good for me personally. Mr. Clutch himself, Carlos Ruiz, TAKES a 100mph fastball on the ELBOW. Something that i feel deserves more credit then ppl are giving. The CATCHER took a PITCH and leaned into a 100mph fastball….let me see you do that. So man on 1st and 2nd 1 out. Gregg Dobbs pinch hits for Lidge, tries to poke one over Blakes (3b) head but is unsuccessful at doing so. 2 down man on 1 & 2 still… and this is when the magic happened boys and girls. Jimmy Rollins steps into the plate gets to a 1-1 count with 2 outs in the bottom of the 9th and cracks a shot into right center scoring both winners and I jump up and down with joy freaking out screaming and waking up my wife and children. Good times, they understand, they have too understand haha!
What a great game and what a great finish. Thank you Phillies for everything keep this going and we could have #2 before we know it.
