The announcement that Philadelphia Phillies right-hander Brett Myers(notes) left the game with “right hip inflammation” seemed innocent enough. But after the game, Myers looked concerned and so did the management, according to the Philadelphia Daily News.
Myers said he has felt hip pain before. Then added: “nothing like this.”
This was different, he told the Daily News, worse, much more sustained. He talked about “a sharp pain” at one point. Later, he said, “It kind of runs from my hip down to my knee sometimes. It might be a nerve.”
“We would definitely have a plan,” Phils manager Charlie Manuel said after Myers lasted only 5 innings, allowing five runs and taking the loss to the Florida Marlins. And you wonder whether the initial mapping of that plan was taking place last night after the game.
Chan Ho Park(notes), recently bounced from the starting rotation, is available and handy. Kyle Kendrick(notes) pitched in Buffalo last night for the Triple A Lehigh Valley IronPigs, allowing three runs in six innings and getting the win. He would be lined up to fall into Myers’ spot if Myers had to go on the disabled list, the Daily News reported. -yahoo & philly.com
We cannot afford to lose anyone at all from our starting lineup. Again this I think pretty much ensures that we will be wheeling and dealing to get a good starter in here. I have heard a lot of names thrown out there but until something becomes a bit more concrete I will keep quiet about it. Hopefully we can figure something out, and rather quick. Our pitching is our backbone much like Rollins is our bat.
